Medical Students for Choice (MSFC)
Creating Tomorrow’s Abortion Providers and Pro-Choice Physicians
Our organization serves to support and spread awareness for abortion and reproductive justice at CNUCOM. The workshops that MSFC holds, such as the Manual Vacuum Aspiration Workshop and the IUD Insertion Workshop, are highly educational and prepare us to be well-informed physicians to help us best serve our patients.
We believe that all people should have access to health services that allow them to lead safe, healthy lives including all aspects of sexual and reproductive health consistent with their own personal and cultural values. Our work is guided by the following values:
All reproductive health choices should be freely accessible to all people.
People are the experts on their own bodies and experiences.
All people have the right to make their own decisions regarding sexuality, health, and whether and when to have children.
Sexual health decisions such as abortion affect people of all identities.
All social justice movements intersect and therefore achieving our mission requires working collaboratively to overcome all forms of oppression.
All people are entitled to empathy and compassionate medical care without judgment.
Providing abortion care is a deeply moral decision. Abortion and contraception are vital aspects of medical care that should be embraced as standard practice and as fundamental to medical education.
Goals and objectives for 2024-2025:
1. Promote Patient-Centered Advocacy: We aim to cultivate a community of medical students who advocate for patients' reproductive rights and equitable access to reproductive healthcare.
2. Foster Collaborative Conversations: Our objective is to create a safe space for open and respectful dialogues among medical students about reproductive health, ethics, and the complexities surrounding reproductive choices.
3. Provide Hands-on Experiences: Provide students with the opportunities to participate in workshops learning how to perform IUD insertions, manual vacuum aspirations, no-scalpel vasectomies, and more.
